If you know well in advance that you are going to be letting go of some unused items or just want to declutter it will be best to start to organize your items into groups.
Getting a head start on the planning will go a long way to make a successful sale.
Start thinking in terms of how you want things to go….
The more time that you put into preparing things the more successful you will be.
A couple of yard signs may not bring in the traffic that you want to get your items sold. Back to the first step…start early.
Begin promoting your sale days before the sale is even happening. Have a sign up in the yard to let people know that you are having an upcoming sale – be clear about the date and time.
Even if you have told people in your advertising that you don’t want early birds they will show up. Trust me on this one! They are often the hard bargainers but at the same time they can get items sold quickly if you are willing to work with them. Just be ready. If you are starting your sale at 9 or 10 be ready at least 15 minutes early.
If you normally have a couple vehicles parked you should probably think about somewhere else to park them so your sale visitors will have somewhere to park. Nothing is more frustrating to a shopper than not being able to find a place to park.
Have kids? Why not have a lemonade stand to draw more attention. Make it more of an event that will draw in others that may not necessarily be just wanting to have a yard sale. On a hot day offer refreshments…on a cold day hot chocolate. Be creative.
Have some music playing but not too loud to disturb the neighbours or make discussions hard.

Even better than just a statistical report of all the crime reported for a specific community is the Interactive Crime Map. You can pinpoint locations in a community and see what types of crime have occured in a specific area of the Calgary community that you are looking at. They give you the option to chose only certain types of crime and you can decide on the time frame that you want to see when things have occured.
